APT provided environmental services on multiple development projects associated with The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor, Connecticut. APT was responsible for wetland evaluations, impact analyses, local wetland permitting, and comprehensive wetland mitigation planning for new construction projects including Whole Foods, Shake Shack, and the Goddard School. Development of the mitigation plans included invasive plant treatment, removal and design of a detailed native planting schedule to effectively compete against the resurgence of invasive plants, enhance wetland and wetland buffer habitats. APT monitored construction activities to promote compliance with all elements of the wetland mitigation plans to protect nearby sensitive ecological resources.
The Client had committed to the Town to build a walking trail utilizing green space west of the shopping center, incorporating previously-established stormwater basins, stormwater wetlands, and open fields. An existing trail extended through a portion of the shopping complex, but trail surfaces and edges were in varying degrees of degradation and the path was largely unused by the general public due to a lack of signage and knowledge of the trail’s existence.
APT provided enhancements to the existing trail through surface upgrades, vegetation management recommendations, and extensions of the trail to complete a loop through the complex. APT also developed an interactive experience incorporating signage identifying and describing the unique natural features found along the trail. An eastern trail connection was established to complement the existing western route that created a sinuous loop through the property which combines the scenic and natural areas to the west with the storefronts and restaurants to the east.
Upon completion of the trail, APT’s Project Manager led a tour of the newly completed interactive trail at a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Evergreen Walk executives, various town officials, and the public. The Town and client consider the project a huge success, with recognition of the public benefits now realized by the improved trail.
